The Missing Cubed Equation Of Atonement!!!
"Are we supposed to fast on this day?."
A determined believer posted his concern about the Day Of Atonement in a Scriptural-based forum.
Many comments on his question post stating:
"Yes."
Let us be mindful of following the majority ...
Many proclaim that YEHOVAH's Day Of Atonement is a day set apart not just as a 24hour day sabbath but a day that involves fasting.
Is it really a day to fast ???
Although many choose this day to fast, there is no command to do so.
The Scriptures remind us that we are not to add or take away from YEHOVAH's word mentioned in Deuteronomy 4:2.
So here are 3 reasons why Day Of Atonement cannot be a day of Fasting :
1) It doesn't mentioned to fast at all.
Interesting how the Scriptures spell out instructions and we act out what's not even written.
The word "Afflict" in Leviticus 23:32 references to deny or humble oneself.
Think about when YEHOSHUA said unless one humbles themself like a child he shall no means enter the kingdom noted in
Does this mean that the child was fasting???
2) Understanding the Statutes.
Most believers do not decipher the differences of YEHOVAH precepts especially the Statutes which the Day Of Atonement has plenty of.
Statutes are one of YEHOVAH's 3 precepts that give a deeper meaning to His days of observance.
In this case for Statutes, they are usually an act, object used to relate in ceremonial or non-ceremional attribute to the homeland of the Israelites.
This can range from the Lamb for the Passover, Tassels being worn, Shofar being blown, Offerings being presented, to even the location where you can tithe food.
Without this profound understanding many will take their own initiative & do what is pleasing in their own site instead of in the sight of YEHOVAH.
A grateful example of this would be Jeroboam's story of replacing the Statutes of YEHOVAH displayed in 1 Kings 12:25-33.
3) The was food offerings on Atonement.
This may come as a shock to most people who fast on Atonement but our forefathers ate food on that day...
Notice the offerings mentioned on Atonement in Leviticus 16:11.
Now notice the offerings mentioned in Number 29:7-11.
Basically you have every form of offerings mentioned there in the book of Numbers chapter 29...
We can learn from 2 verses in the Torah that Sin offerings along with the rest of the offerings are to be consumed according to
Leviticus 10:17 & Deuteronomy 12:6-7.
We come to deeper conviction that even in the future of Atonement when the Messiah returns that these sin offerings will be still be consumed -Ezekiel 43:18-27.
Remember YEHOVAH doesn't change:
So let us make it our duty not to change HIS word- Proverbs 30:6.
